David, Laura and Nathan Watford are this year’s Christmas Family for The Graceville News! The Watford home was awarded first place in this year’s Christmas Decorating Contest sponsored by The Graceville News. Judges all agreed that the Watford family’s use of lights, wonderful displays, and all together scene was one from a classic Christmas movie that could be enjoyed not only at night but even during the day.
The Watford family started decorating their home outdoor for Christmas 24 years ago when their oldest son, John David, was born and have done it ever since. “I guess we still do it to feel like kids ourselves. It’s more challenging the older we get, especially the ladder,” commented David Watford.
He went on to speak on how the decorations truly are a “family affair” noting that his wife, Laura, does the characters. He commented, “She loves the traditional stuff,” before adding, “Clark Griswald and Cousin Eddie are for me.” He went on to add that, “We will always have a manger scene to celebrate the birth of Jesus.”
Both David and Laura grew up in Graceville and have lived here most of their lives. Calling the “32440” home for as long as they can remember, they have continued to contribute to the community in work, church, and volunteering. David stated, “We both grew up in Graceville and have lived here most of our lives [and] we are lucky to both work locally.” David has been with Peoples Bank of Graceville for 27 years with the locally-owned bank being a family business in a way, as Laura’s father was also bank president and Laura helped cut the ribbon at the bank’s grand opening when she was a child. Laura has spent her life dedicating it to local students by working in the school systems for 29. The Watford’s youngest son, Nathan, is a junior at Poplar Springs and one of the most popular members at First Baptist Church in Graceville where he always enjoys praising Jesus.
The Watford family are truly the epitome of a wonderful, Christian family. They have dedicated their lives to helping others in business, school, and church as well as trying to bring a little cheer and joy to everyone in the area with their wonderful Christmas display.
