Rooted in the values of faith, resilience, and empowerment, the Jewel Empowerment Foundation, Inc. is making a profound impact under the leadership of its founder, Kalinda Pyles Knight. A proud native of Jacob City, Florida, Knight established the nonprofit in honor of her beloved grandmother, Annie Jewel Saulsberry, a woman known for her unwavering strength, kindness, and dedication to uplifting others.
Growing up in Jacob City, Kalinda witnessed firsthand the deep sense of community and the strength of familial bonds that defined her upbringing. In a small town where everyone knew each other, the values of hard work, compassion, and faith were instilled in Kalinda from an early age by her grandmother, who was both a spiritual guide and a pillar of support for the family. Annie Jewel Saulsberry, a woman who lived a life of service to others, taught Kalinda and her family the importance of giving back to the community and lifting others up.
“My grandmother was the heart of our family. She not only raised us with love but also taught us how to be strong in the face of adversity,” said Knight. “Her legacy of generosity, resilience, and community service has always been my guiding light. The Jewel Empowerment Foundation is a reflection of her spirit, ensuring that her values continue to shape the lives of others.”
Kalinda’s academic journey reflects her deep commitment to making a difference. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master’s in Public Health, and a Master’s in Mental Health and Wellness. These academic achievements, combined with her personal experiences, have shaped her approach to community service and mental health advocacy. “My education has provided me with the tools to not only understand the challenges many face but to create effective solutions that can truly help others,” Knight explained.
With a mission to empower, elevate, and shine, the Jewel Empowerment Foundation focuses on providing resources, mentorship, and support to individuals and communities in need. Through educational initiatives, mental health advocacy, elderly care programs, mentorship opportunities, parent liaison services, and basic need support, the foundation is committed to making a lasting difference.
The foundation offers scholarships for students, mentorship programs for young professionals, and dedicated parent liaison services to bridge the gap between families and schools. By providing these resources, the foundation helps parents become more engaged in their children’s education, fostering a collaborative environment for student success.
In addition, the foundation is deeply committed to promoting mental health awareness and providing essential resources to those in need. By destigmatizing mental health issues, Jewel Empowerment Foundation works to create communities that foster understanding and support. They also offer basic need support, providing food, clothing, and other essential services to individuals and families facing hardships.
The foundation’s commitment to serving the elderly is equally important, with initiatives designed to provide companionship, caregiving resources, and special programs that enhance the quality of life for senior citizens. The foundation strives to ensure that the elderly are not only supported but honored for their contributions to society.
The organization’s signature red and black colors symbolize both the strength and passion behind its mission—strength in the foundation’s unwavering dedication to service and passion for uplifting those who need it most.
As the foundation continues to grow, Knight remains dedicated to expanding its reach, securing grants, and forming partnerships with local businesses and organizations to further its impact.
