Henderson Furniture has been a staple in the community for 75 years. The business was started in 1948 by Ed Henderson when he rented a storefront on Brown Street across from Henry Arnold Ford Company. What started as a small opportunity has turned into a family and town legacy.
Almost ten years after opening the original store, Mr Henderson moved from Brown Street to Cliff Street to the building that Henderson Furniture would be located at for the next 65 years. When Mr. Henderson's son, Terry, graduated college he began working with his father and the duo was able to double the size of the building on Cliff Street where the store was located.
Sadly, in 1976 Mr. Henderson passed away. This left Terry to run the business which he did from 1976 to 1996. Then in 1996 until 2003, Mrs. Helen Henderson, the wife of Terry, ran the business until she decided to retire. It was then that Terry and Helen's son and the founder of Henderson Furniture’s namesake, Ed took over, buying the business and running it since then.
After more than 60 years in the same location, Henderson had the opportunity to sell the building to a fellow Graceville businessman, Reverend Raymond O’Quinn. Reverend O’Quinn wanted the building but not the business. The owner of My Father's Closet came to Ed, needing a bigger building for his business and after giving it much thought, Ed decided it was time to downsize. Since the COVID pandemic, it had been difficult for Henderson to get new merchandise and a new store front was just want the small town business needed to give it a breath of fresh air.
This past summer, Henderson Furniture relocated to 951 Primm Avenue in Graceville. Even though it's a smaller building, Mr. Henderson commented that he stays busier now than he did at the previous location. He also, wanted to thank his customers who have done business with him and those who continue to do business with him. Henderson hopes everyone will come by the new store located just behind Dollar General in the same outlet center as Graceville Fitness and Wellbody Physical Therapy. Henderson’s is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the exception of Thursdays when the store has the same hours as Saturday which is 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. To contact the store call 850-263-3291. Henderson Furniture also offers different finance options including rent to own and in-house financing.
Henderson Furniture along with many other retail stores in Graceville will be open the day after Thanksgiving with some amazing deals for citizens to shop local.
